SCVBA REGIONALS: The Santa Barbara Volleyball Club's 16-Smack team has received an at-large bid from USA Volleyball to compete in the 16-and-under open division of next month's USAV Junior Nationals in Reno.

The team, which had earned enough points in Southern California Volleyball Association play to gain a regional bid, was awarded the at-large berth in the 28-team nationals after placing third at that event.

"The team really stepped up their play and adapted to the various lineup changes throughout the day," said coach Greg Novak, who was assisted by Courtney Preston.

Santa Barbara swept past Saddleback, Laguna Beach and TCA in pool play before defeating SMBC in the quarterfinals. The team was eliminated in the semifinals in a loss to Wave 15-Spalding.

Team members included Nicki Brown, Ciena Colburn, Holland Crenshaw, Amanda Harvey, Sierra Hofstatter, Lina Kleinschmidt, Jaimie Mayner, Sarah McKinny, Amanda Moriarty, Hannah Porter and Dani Rottman.
