GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

The Santa Barbara Volleyball Club began division play in the Southern California Volleyball Association over the weekend, and the 16-2 team of Armen Zakarian got promoted to Division 6 after finishing in a three-way tie for first place in its pool with a 2-1 record.

The club's remaining teams stayed in their same divisions.

The 12-1 squad tied for second with 1-2 mark to stay in Division 2. Coach Jordyn Druary praised the play of Sydney Riegert.

The 14-1 team went 2-1 in pool play and lost its first playoff match. Tristan Racich stepped in to set for the team, and the offense was led by Page Hawkins, Amanda Harvey and Nicki Brown.

Nicole Tetherow, Hannah Harris and Amanda Moriarty paced the 14-2 team, which went 1-2 to remain in Division 4.

The hitting of Katherine Crook and Sierra Hofstatter and the setting of Emma Craine keyed the 13-1 team to a 2-1 record in a Division 4 pool.

The 16-Elite squad defeated the club's 15-Elites in the playoffs. Both teams will stay in Division 1.

The 16-1 team lost in the first-round of the Division 3 playoffs after going 2-1 in pool play. Heidi Vandenoever and Rachel Szeyller paced the team, according to coach Greg Novak.
