GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

The 17-1 team of the Santa Barbara Volleyball Club beat an 18-1 team from Long Beach en route to winning its pool in a Southern California Volleyball Association tournament.

Coach Ed Gover praised the defensive play of Hannah Denitz.

The club's 18-elite squad finished third in Division 1, losing in the semifinals to SCVC 18.

Kristen Dealy, Eva Gabrielsen and Carly Wopat played very consistent all day, said coach Liz Towne-Gilbert.

The 18-1 team went 1-2 in pool play to remain in Division 5. Jen Murphy, Julia Mathews and Natalie Voorn led the team.

The club hosted its Season Kickoff tournament for the non-travel Blenders League. The winners with Papaya Pounders in the 7th-8th grade division and Pineapple Punchers in the 5th-6th.
