GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Last weekend was a good one for the Santa Barbara Volleyball Club, with five teams winning tournaments. Four of the club's teams - the 18-Elite, 16-Elite, 15-Elite and 14-1s - are now competing in Division 1 of their age groups.

On Sunday, the 18-Elite team went 3-0 in the last of its qualifying rounds in Anaheim, beating Channel Islands, Long Beach 18-2 and Nevada Jrs.

"We got solid all-around play from Kristen Dealy," said coach Jason Donnelly. "Jane Hinkle seems to always give us a spark when needed. Her defensive energy was great all day." Teams 17-1 and 18-1 also both went 3-0, and both will start the season in Division 5.

Team 14-1 moved up to Division 1 by winning six matches in San Diego, sweeping three matches in pool play before going 3-0 in the playoffs to win the tournament.

"The team practiced solid for three weeks with the goal in sight of getting into division one and it paid off," said coach KC Collins. "Kira Schleich set particularly well, while Amanda Harvey was our go-to hitter all day long."

Team 15-2 moves up to Division 6 after finishing 3-0 in pool play.

Team 14-2 finished 1-2 to finish third and remains in Division 4. Team 13-1 placed second with a 2-1 record and also remains in Division 4. Team 15-1 remains in Division 3 after going 1-2 in pool play and 2-1 in playoffs.
