Tuesday marked another edition of youth volleyball at East Beach in California Beach Volleyball Association action. This one drew 34 teams, relatively small compared to what's coming up this Tuesday as the Quiksilver Roxy Tour comes to town, with berths to the season-ending California Cup State Championships in Manhattan Beach.
Local preps Emily Rottman and Sammie Brown took first in the girls 18s, followed by Andrea Ragan-Allison Armstrong. Jane Hinkle-Annie Villanueva and Chloe Tushar-Shelby Oliver split third place.
Carly Wopat and Katie Spieler beat out Dani Rottman and Nicki Brown for the girls 16s title, with Laura Masho-Iris Campbell and Emma Patterson-Mallory Meyers sharing third place.
Olivia Zelon and Caroline Grande, who are 12, played up in the 14s and got third along with Samantha Moore-Sophie Zelon. McKenzie Scarborough and Kira Schleich took the title over Karly Lawrence and Bailey Roach.
On the boys side, Trevor Salas and Allen Casas topped Scott Snodgress and Aaron Jones in the 18s. Jason Halliday and Nick Ferry took top honors in the 16s with Sean Robinson and Galvin Trudeau coming in second. Nick Clark and Alex Biedel shared third with Casey Slaught-Gabriel Burdick.
Hagen Smith and Chase Klein won the 14s, with Ruben Cartel and Grady Lee in second. The fraternal duo if Kyle and Eric Ensing came in third.
