GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
The Santa Barbara Volleyball Club opened its season with qualifying competition in 12, 13 and 14 age groups.
The teams play qualifying rounds to determine what level they'll compete during the regular season.
The club's 14-1 squad had the best day, going 3-0 to win its group. The 13-1 team finished second. Both teams will receive a bye for the second qualifying round, and will play the third round, vying for Gold Divisions 1 through 4. The 14-2's lost all their matches but will still have a chance in the next qualifying round to work their way back into the Gold brackets.
The 12's lost one match to place second for the day, and will move into the Gold division for the next qualifying round.
K.C. Collins, coach of the 14-1 team, lauded the hitting of Taylor Racich, who didn't make a hitting error all day.
Katie Spieler, Emma Craine and Katherine Crook were praised for their play by 13-1 coach Roger Kuntz.
Tina Brown, coach of the 14-2 team, singled out the play of McKenna Hogue, Dianna Sleep and setters Laura Masho and Nicole Tetherow.
Teah Burdick served up 18 straight points for the 12-1 team, reported coach Jordyn Druary.
