GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

The 18-1 and 17-1 teams from the Santa Barbara Volleyball Club both placed 25th in their respective divisions at the Las Vegas Invitational last weekend.

The 18-1 squad of Jason Donnelly competed in the Open Division with the top 96 teams. The went 5-2 in two days of pool play and lost in the Bronze B playoff bracket.

"Overall we had a pretty good weekend," Donnelly said. "The biggest adjustment comes with the speed of the game and the amount of talented players on each team. We played really well against some great teams this weekend."

The 17-1 team sent 3-3 in pool play and lost in the first round of the Bronze B playoff bracket.

Club director Liz Towne-Gilbert said the competition the girls faced will only make them better players.

"This was a great showing for the girls and the Santa Barbara Volleyball Club," she said. "The level of volleyball was excellent and will benefit our teams over the course of the season."
