GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Jake Hong's 15-1 team from the Santa Barbara Volleyball Club advanced to the semifinals of Mandatory Tournament No. 3. The team lost to Mizuno of Long Beach to finish third in Division 1.

"Sammie Brown played great throughout the day setting our hitters," said Hong.

The 15 -2 team tied for 11th place in Division 2. Coach Greg Novak praised the play of Christina Miller, Heidi Vandenoever and Jessie Ditmore in the middle and Kristen Schroeder in the back row.

Also in Division 2, the 16-1 squad of Erica Downing finished in a tie for fifth place. The 16-2 squad dropped to Division 6 after placing fourth in pool play.

In other action, the Santa Barbara 12-Menehunes placed second to the Santa Cruz Main Beach 13-Kula at the second annual Beach to Beach Challenge at the Page Center.

The 18-team, two-division event include teams from Santa Barbara, Carpinteria and Main Beach volleyball clubs.
