GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Santa Barbara Volleyball Club teams recently played in regional tournaments, and six will move on to more competition soon. The first week of July the 18-1, 15-1, 14-1 and 13-1 teams will head to the Junior Olympics in Minnesota and the 16-1 and 15-2 teams will go to the Volleyball Festival in Reno, Nev.
The 18-1 team, coached by Jason Donnelly, finished the season with a rank of 18th out of 192 teams, high enough to receive a region bid for the American Division of the Junior Olympics.
In regional action, the 15-1 team coached by Jake Hong went 5-2 to finish fifth in the Gold Division bracket. The 15-1s have a final ranking of third out of 146 teams and received the region bid for the National Division of the Junior Olympics.
The 13-1 team, coached by Ed Gover, went 2-6 in regional action, and finished the season with a final ranking of 26th out of 273 teams in the 14s age division, also good for a regional bid to the Junior Olympics. The 14-1 team went 7-1 in regional play, finishing third in the Gold Division bracket, with a final ranking of third out of 273 teams. The team had already qualified for the Junior Olympics, winning a qualifier in April.
The 16-1 team, coached by Erica Downing, went 2-6 in regional play and finished with a rank of 26th out of 238 teams, and the 15-2 team won the Silver Division bracket in the regional tournament, going 7-2, and finished ranked 35th out of 146.
In other regional play, the 13-2 team coached by Tina Brown went 8-0 in the two-day tournament to win the Copper Division bracket. The team had a final ranking of 109th of 273 teams in the 14s division.
Also in regional action, the 17 team coached by Jake Hong finished fifth in the Silver Division Bracket and garnered a final ranking of 72nd out of 192 teams in the 18s age division. The team went 4-2 in the two-day regional and 0-1 in the playoffs.
The 14-2 team coached by KC Collins went 1-6 in regional play and finished 60th of 273 teams in the final rankings.
