July 4th
12:30PM - The 18's won their 10:00 match and are now in the finals going for GOLD! Since 18's and 14's are the last to leave Miami, the support group has slightly dimenished but we will rally as many people as possible to support SBVC 18's in center court action. The 14's plan to leave early to try to catch a few points before they have to start their second round of play.
12:00PM - The 14's are recovering from a long night of playing. Last night's pool was lopsided with wins and losses which resulted in the number 1 seed in the division being eliminated. The 14's last match of the night was a barn-burner against that number 1 seed (Imi Ike- from Hawaii) with the 3rd game taking them to a 21-19 victory. Complete enjoyment was having the 18's players and parents come and watch and cheer them on!! And wouldn't you know it, our team was one of the last to leave the Conventionn Center - check out the scene before we left - Pic 1 Pic 2 Pic 3
The 14's now enjoy a mid morning breakfast and head for the beach. The indication of the 4th of July is here. The Miami Vice style scene across the street has boats motoring in the channel for the first time, planes are flying over the beach with advertisements, the skies are blue for the first time, the beaches are flourishing with families, umbrellas and vendors, and the hotel security has increased, and the "BLING" being worn on the streets is bigger than ever - I feel the need to buy an 1 inch dia. gold chain and walk the streets with my poodle.
10:00 AM - What a day yesterday! Lot's of action as the 15's finish up third in the country and the 14's and 18's finishing up their play.
The 18's won their first match of the day (8:00am) and are now in the medal round. They have a match at 10:00 and the winner of the match will be in the finals, which will be at 2:00PM today.
The 14's were busy on their track and won a crucial game late in the day to come out first in their pool. They play today at 3:00. They have a pool of three teams and have to take 1st or second to stay on the top pool.
Danny Rottman and Taylor Racich were selected as all tournament!
The following PHOTOS are of the 15's playing against the eventual winners, the medal ceremony and individual shots of the players.
We are going to the beach to relax and swim.

July 3- Keep on Going!!
1:30PM - The 15's finished 3rd! (Photos posted later tonight.
Here are some photos of the 14's playing, eating dinner and hanging out in Miami (Yesterday).
Here are photos of the 15's in the medal match and the 18 playing in their second round of pool play.
The 14's -The 14's finally started their competition against Narrows Purple and got the victory (23-25, 25-22, 15-11), and the second match against Southwest Asics (25-18, 25-18). They will continue today against 3 more opponents, including the 4 for seed from Hawaii, Imi Ike.
The 18's have been playing smoothly and start their second set of pool play which has 3 teams. The winner of the pool will have a crossover match tomorrow morning (Sat) and then playoffs will follow to complete their competition. The way the 18's have been playing, they have a good chance to be playing on center court.
The 15's play at 8:00 am. Their first match is for the medal and one more victory after that will put them in the finals. As of now, they are in the top 8 of the Nation........wow!
The weather is as expected, hot and humid. It feels like the tropical paradise of Hawaii but lathered in concrete and old, but nice hotels.
The hotel we are staying at is right on the beach which the girls briefly visit between competition. Everything has a price tag on it, you make a move to the left it will cost a dollar, a move to the right, it will cost you two dollars, you ask a question, it costs five. But the chaperones are doing a great job and have found ways to feed the hungry olympians, transport them to the venue, refresh their water bottles, feed them dinner and keep an eagle eye on them to prevent over heating/exhaustion.
The food has been great. Each team is taking their turn comparing their food experiences on Lincoln Street, which is like a State street but has more of a Cuban/Italian flare.
Got to go.....going to watch the 15s!!! |

July 2- All Cylinders are Running!!
The 15's did what they had to do to make it to the top eight. The Texas Tornados are a huge club with a long record of JO victories and the 15's managed to put a speed bump in their path - oh, and did I mention the Tornados are the #1 seed? So the 15's managed to steal that seed and are the number seed for the gold medal match tomorrow morning at 8:00am.
The 18's continue their winning streak, not loosing a game. Their next match will be at 1:00 pm.
The 14's have waited long enough, they are getting ready to head to the convention center with their first match starting at 5:00PM. |

July 1- In Miami
MORE PHOTOS -More photos of the 14's, parents, siblings, 18's/15's, coaches and volleyball action
2:25PM- Finally, everyone has made it to Miami. The 14's had their last player make it to the hotel and all of the parents are here to provide a supporting cast for the 15's and 18's as they battle their way to a medal. The, 14's Team (who are off today), coaches, and several parents made their way to the convention center to help with the 15's/18's warm-ups and take notes on their play.
For the 15's, it was a storybook ending to pool play, they rebounded from their earlier losses to beat the #2 seed in the Open Division. The 15's, seeded 5th, were upset by the 10th seed, but in turn, SB beat the #2 seed (their only loss). Shows that it is a game of momentum and who brings their "A" game. The15's were on "FIRE" and almost flawless against ASICS Mavs, beating them 25-16, 25-21. From what we saw today, the 15's are stacked with talent, have ironed out the kinks, and will be with the top contenders.
The 18's showed their "A" game during their first match against Northern Kentucky, beating them 25-4, 25-4. Pool play will bring additional talent and challenges as they face NorCal (14th seed) and Triangle 14 Black (24th seed).
10:20 AM- The next match was just as tough. It was a close one but they lost in the third game to Advance 15 Navy (15-25, 25-23, 15-13). Their next match will be at 1:00PM. They'll have time to regroup and get ready to play the number two seed in the open division. Next update will be much later tonight. We're leaving the hotel to support the 15's in the 1:00PM match, cheer on the 18's in their first match at 4:00PM, and then take off to dinner.
9:20 AM- The 15's came up a little short in their first match and lost in two.
8:30 AM- The 15's played three matches yesterday and won them all, including one match against Wave, a local SCVA team. The first match of today is set for 8:00 and the second at 9:00.
18-Blue- The 18's will start play today - their first match is slotted for 4:00pm.
PHOTOS - These are some photos of the 14's traveling with assistant coach Greg Novak and the 18's assistant, John Sener. The photos include taking off from SB, the bus ride to get our connection, and various shots from our hotel window. Yes, it does actually bring back memories of Miami vice......you'll reconginze the photo.
Traveling- Lot's of delays in traveling, mostly due to weather and mechanical problems. A player from the 15's ended up staying solo in Washington, while another player from the 14's is delayed another day and won't get in until late this afternoon......that's a lot of traveling. |
